Why do you do the things you do?

I’m talking simple, mundane things like what you’ll eat today, or what you’ll wear, or who you’ll spend time with, or what words you’ll speak, or what post you'll like on social media, or where you’ll spend your money, or what shows you’ll watch on Netflix? And what about weightier questions like where you’ll go to college, where you’ll live, what career path you’ll take, what church body you’ll invest yourself in, who you’ll marry?

While you might take time to seriously consider some of these things, you probably do most of these without much forethought. But every decision you make -- from the big, life trajectory-altering ones to the thousands of seemingly insignificant ones you make every day -- they each flow out of “a fixed mental disposition toward life” -- it’s called your mindset.

Have you thought about yours? Why do you love what you love, hate what you hate, and fear what you fear? What informs your mindset toward life, toward others, toward your future? What does Jesus have to say about your mindset? Is he pleased with it? Would he want you to adjust anything?

Paul tells us in Colossians 3:1-2

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”

Come away with us on September 13-15th for our Pivot Fall Retreat as we consider the Apostle Paul's letter to the Colossians and what it means for us to cultivate a Christian MINDSET -- to Live in Light of the Lordship of Christ.

The retreat will take place at Fountainebleau State Park in Mandeville at Group Camp 1 and costs $40 (includes lodging and B,L,D on Saturday and B on Sunday). You can find a tentative schedule and a packing list below.
